Flashcards

Cards you write once and remember for good

Make cards by hand, generate them from your reading, or bring your Anki decks across. Spaced repetition decides when each one comes back. No account and no subscription.

Card types

More than front and back

Every card type has its own editor, with formatting, math, images, audio and video. Preview card shows it exactly as it will appear in review.

  • BasicA question and its answer
  • ReverseAlso asks the answer side first, scheduled separately
  • Fill in the blankOne or more blanks in context
  • Single best answerMultiple choice with one right option
  • Select all that applyEvery correct option, none of the wrong ones
  • True or falseQuick checks of a single claim
  • MatchingPair terms with what they mean
  • GroupingSort items into the right categories
  • OrderingPut steps or events in sequence
  • Image occlusionHide parts of a picture and ask about them

Matching, grouping and ordering work by keyboard as well as by dragging. A whole board counts as one review.

Image occlusion

Label the diagram, from memory

Pick an image, such as an anatomy plate, a map or a circuit, and draw boxes over the parts you want to learn. Then write questions that point at those boxes.

  • One question can hide several boxes, and one box can serve several questions.
  • Choose to hide every box, or only the one being asked about.
  • Each question has its own schedule, so the labels you know stop coming up while the hard ones keep returning.
  • Draw with a mouse, a finger or a pen, with undo, zoom and pan.
Fair play

No peeking under the mask

Before you reveal the answer, the app shows a version of the image with the hidden parts actually removed, so the label can't show through. You rate yourself after the reveal.

Spaced repetition

Reviews arrive just before you would forget

ostudy schedules with FSRS, a modern spaced-repetition algorithm. After each card you rate how it went: Wrong, Hard, Medium or Easy. Each rating button shows when the card would come back. Keys 0 to 3 rate without the mouse.

  • Review shows how many cards are due today and roughly how long they take.
  • Scheduled study follows your daily limits for new cards and reviews; Extra study lets you go beyond them when an exam is close.
  • Suspend, bury until tomorrow, reset or reschedule any card without faking a review.
  • Sessions survive a closed app and pick up where you stopped.
  • Progress shows your activity, results, upcoming workload and the areas that need another pass.

Making and organizing cards

A library that stays tidy as it grows

Subjects, decks and tags

Each course is a subject holding its decks, documents and guides. Tags cut across them.

Search everything

Full-text search and filters over every card, from one search box.

Templates and bulk add

Reusable layouts for repeated structures such as term and definition, and many plain cards at once.

No accidental duplicates

The editor warns you before you save a card you already have.

Cards from your reading

With an AI you choose, documents become drafted cards of several types, each citing its page. Documents

Share a deck

Send a deck to a classmate. They get the cards with fresh schedules, never your review history.

Bring your decks

Moving from Anki

Import an Anki deck package (.apkg) from Library. Basic and reversed cards become ostudy cards, simple cloze cards become Fill in the blank, and images come along. Subdecks become tags.

Your Anki review history does not carry over, so imported cards start fresh. Nothing in the package is ever run, and a report afterwards lists anything that couldn't be converted.

Exporting from Anki

If a newer package is refused, export it again from Anki as an Anki Deck Package with Support older Anki versions and Include media ticked.
